Sidewalks

I have many buildings that have been bought built, or have the base built on them. I am doing a downtown scene and will require sidewalks. Now most buildings come with a sidewalk that is part of the base. The problem is that no 2 of these buildings have the same style of sidewalk. What can I do to have one style of sidewalk for all the buildings including those with and without sidewalks built on?

I had the same problem and decided to discard the pre-made ones and build all to match. I used basswood from the hobby shop (really thin) and cut it to shape. I scribed "V" seams every 5 (scale) feet with the point of an X-acto knife. Next, apply a thin coat of sealer such as sanding sealer to all sides. Most anything will work but water based paint such as latex will raise the wood grain too much and may even warp the thin wood. Sand the tops lightly and coat with concrete colored paint. If there's any gloss, top coat with a shot of Testers Dull Coat. Glue 'em down.

I cut the supplied sidewalks off and used Evergreen's square patterned styrene for the sidewalk. You might want to build it up a little to allow for a realistic curb at streetside.

There are sheets of sidewalk material that you can buy. Remove the sidewalks from the buildings that have them. Get some styrene or other suitable base that is level with the new sidewalk and mount it to the side walk. Mount the building on that. Now you have a uniform sidewalk for your down town.

need a product to resemble poured concrete. It had the individual "planks" used for the mold on the surface of the sheet.
I checked every list I had (HG, Plastruct, Evergreen and all the Brits and German providers I had sheets on or from without luck. I built a retaining wall out of badly matched (on purpose) .030 x .050 styrene leaving gaps and bad edges with a 1/4" styrene frame and then wet it down with soapy water and poured Durham's water putty in. The result looked like a concrete wall. I touched it up with sandpaper and painted it with somebody's waterbase "concrete" color and some very faint inkwash. Results were cool. Try it. Durham's seems to hold small shapes and sizes better than any plaster I've ever used and unmolds without cracking IF UR CAREFUL! Good luck
