Acrylics

After readings all the posts on acrylic paint I decided to try them. Well now I wish I had tried them before I think I may just pitch out my enamals. I do have a qustion though how long should I allow before I put tape down for the next color. I ask because I pulled off paint that I thought was dry enough. It was dry too the touch and I allowed an hour between painting and taping.

Acrylics are dry to the touch a lot faster than enamels, but they generally take just as long to cure fully all the way through. Wait at least a couple of days before masking, preferably a week. Or else use a really low-tack masking material.

And it helps to lay down a primer coat first. Acrylics don't have as much "bite" as enamels do, and need a little more for them to grab on to.  Especially if you're using the Model Master Acrylic line. I'll never shoot them again without a primer base. Unless your using something as low tack as Post-It notes, you're almost guaranteed that it will lift off, without a primer.
